My Favorite DIY Beauty Ideas!

18 February 2013

Am I the only one who gets way more excited than I should over products I can make with stuff I already have in my house? I mean, how awesome is it that you can just grab some olive oil or brown sugar out of your cabinet, mix a few things together, and then- BAM! A super useful (and cheap) beauty find!

I've just put together a little collection of my favorite DIY beauty stuff. I have tried them all so I definitely speak from experience when I make these recommendations. Keep in mind, none of these lovelies are my idea (I wish!), so I will just be showing off a picture of the idea and a link to the blogger or website that the idea is from.

UPDATES:
- More DIY Beauty Ideas here!

- Elle and Blair's Sweet Sugar Scrub recipe has been taken down. It appears that they have removed it from their blog, and the link was automatically redirecting to their YouTube channel instead. I apologize for the inconvenience, and hope that you will find some of the other DIY beauty recipes useful.

- I've been getting a lot of questions and confusion as to where the recipes can be found for these ideas and why they aren't just posted on this page. If you look right below any of the photos, the pink item description is the link to the recipe. As I stated above, this post is a collection of my favorite DIY beauty ideas from other bloggers. In order to give them the credit and respect they deserve, I cannot and will not post any of the recipes on this post or anywhere else. Just follow the links. Thanks for your understanding!

Bath bombs are a huge hit at skincare retailers like Lush, and for good reason. These little guys are known for their soothing scents, fun fizzy effect, and easy recipe. I make them all the time with just a few household items, and it's super simple and fun to customize them with all different mold shapes, colors, and scents.

P.S.- Rumor has it this is the EXACT recipe Lush uses to make their bath bombs!

This scrub is seriously the stuff of miracles. After using it, my skin felt baby soft and smooth. It takes a little bit more time and effort to put this one together, but it's definitely worth it!

Who would have thought you could make your own face powder? This one is super simple to put together, and I love knowing exactly what ingredients are going on my face!

I am a complete lip balm junkie, so I jumped at the chance to make my own. This one ended up being tons better than a lot of the pricey lip balms I have. If you suffer from chapped lips like me, this is absolutely something you should DIY!

This is another great idea for fighting off the dreaded peeling lips. It took me a couple times of making this to get the ratios of brown sugar to honey and olive oil just right, but once I did this stuff worked just as well as my Lush Mint Julips!

I seriously have a pile of eyeshadows that I just never use. I'm basically a neutral shadow kind of girl, so any bright shades like blues, greens, pinks, etc. are just kind of wasted on me. Which is why this idea is seriously the most useful thing ever! The colors may not look good on my eyes, but they look amazing as nail polish!

There is seriously something magical in avocados. Not only are they insanely nutritious and yummy, but they also do awesome things for your skin?! Try out this mask if you are in need of some moisture in your skin, it works wonders!

I love using this spray to set my beachy waves (get the style here). It really adds some texture to my look and makes me feel like I'm on a tropical island somewhere instead of sitting in a classroom.

As always, share any of your favorite beauty DIY's in the comments section below! I would love to hear what you guys have tried!

  4. Hi,
What do I do with a 'Sweet Dream' after I have my ingredients? Chop up the rose petals, blend all in a blender, etc? Looks awesome & I'd love to give it a whirl. Just want to make sure I prepare it properly.

    1. Hi Sara!

Start by letting all the ingredients sit for a little while to all soak in together. Once you're ready to use it, just take a spoon and mash it all up. The rough texture of the sugar will break up the rose petals for you as you're mixing. Hope that helped! :)
